Rail Ties – Yellow Cedar

We shipped a couple of trucks of 7″ x 9″ x 8′ Rail Ties to a customer today. These are used on a replacement project, replacing old and damaged Creosote Hardwood ties. Creosote ties are expensive to purchase; they have a long life, but their disposal is costly and environmentally challenging. Creosote is considered to be a hazardous product in Canada. These Yellow Cedar Rail ties will last slightly less time on a rail application, but disposal will be inexpensive, and the workers are not subject to hazardous materials. The Yellow Cedar holds the gauge well and is accepted on all short lines and branch lines but not  Class 1 Railways.
