This 2 part 20″ x 168″ x 336″ bridge was for a unique application as it spanned between 2 enormous damn abutments in a severe potential slide debris area. The site was designed in the case of a cataclysmic failure on a future (100 year) flood and slide. The timber bridge was designed to “wash out” and allow the pressure to be relieved if there was a need. This is creative engineering planning for a situation which is unlikely to happen. A timber bridge will “float downstream” with the debris, but won’t “drop” and cause further mess to “back up” that a steel structure would likely cause.
